Perfect Summer Recipe: Tart-Sweet Watermelon Lemonade
Everybody has their own opinion about what makes a perfect glass of lemonade. Some think it’s got to have a light lemon flavor and lots of sweetness. Others –like me– prefer a big punch of lemon barely mellowed out by a hint of sugar. And to me, this recipe is perfect.
The recipe below makes a tart, flavorful lemonade that will probably be the most refreshing thing you put in your mouth this summer (careful, those of you with dirty minds!
). If you tend to prefer a sweeter lemonade, you’ll want to up the sugar just a tad. But for me, just a cup (or even a little less) is perfect. Also, if you’re somebody who likes your drinks to be perfectly smooth without any texture, you’ll want to double-strain the watermelon before adding it.
Recipe serves about 4-6
Ingredients:
4 C. chopped sweet watermelon
1 C. sugar
1 1/2 C. freshly squeezed lemon juice (don’t substitute!)
4-6 C. cold purified water (depending on how strong you like it)
Instructions: In a large serving pitcher, stir together the sugar and lemon juice. Keep stirring until sugar is dissolved in juice. Add water.
Dump your chopped watermelon in a blender. Blend until very smooth.
Strain watermelon into your lemonade (optional), or just dump it right it. Mix well and chill through. Stir before pouring.
Optional: Add a shot of citrus vodka to make this a Watermelon-Lemonade Cocktail recipe!
